"Throwing money at the problem has neither reduced poverty nor made the poor self-sufficient. It is time to re-evaluate our approach to fighting poverty. We should focus less on making poverty more comfortable and more on creating the prosperity that will get people out of poverty.”- Michael Tanner
In the words of Lyndon B Johnson “ Very often a lack of jobs and money is not the cause of poverty, but the symptom. The cause may lie deeper in our failure to give our fellow citizens a fair chance to develop their own capacities, in a lack of education and training, in a lack of medical care and housing, in a lack of decent communities in which to live and bring up their children (Johnson)”.Source: Public Papers of the Presidents of the United States: Lyndon B. Johnson, 1963-64 Volume I, entry 91, pp. 112-118. Washington, D. C.: Government Printing Office, 1965.
